Maya Angelou was a poet, dancer, singer, activist, scholar, and world-famous author. She influenced politicians, celebrities, and the world. Yet, she persevered. She also was active in the Civil Rights Movement and served as the northern coordinator for the Southern Christian Leadership Conference in 1959.
